Born eccentric: Constraints on Jupiter and Saturn’s pre-instability orbits

چکیده

An episode of dynamical instability is thought to have sculpted the orbital structure outer solar system. When modeling this instability, a key constraint comes from Jupiter's fifth eccentric mode (quantified by its amplitude M55), which an important driver system's secular evolution. Starting commonly-assumed near-circular orbits, present-day giant planets' architecture lies at limit numerically generated systems, and M55 rarely excited true value. Here we perform analysis large batch artificially triggered instabilities, test variety configurations for primordial orbits. In addition more standard setups, motivated results modern hydrodynamical simulations evolution within gaseous disk, consider possibility that Jupiter Saturn emerged nebular gas locked in 2:1 resonance with non-zero eccentricities. We show that, such scenario, Jupiter-Saturn system represents typical simulation outcome, commonly matched. Furthermore, Uranus Neptune's final orbits are determined combination mass Kuiper belt ejected ice giant.

Constraints on the Atmospheric Circulation and Variability of the Eccentric Hot Jupiter Xo-3b

We report secondary eclipse photometry of the hot Jupiter XO-3b in the 4.5 μm band taken with the Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) on the Spitzer Space Telescope. We measure individual eclipse depths and center of eclipse times for a total of twelve secondary eclipses. We fit these data simultaneously with two transits observed in the same band in order to obtain a global best-fit secondary eclipse...

Fuzzy Sliding Mode for Spacecraft Formation Control in Eccentric Orbits

The problem of relative motion control for spacecraft formation flying in eccentric orbits is considered in this paper. Due to the presence of nonlinear dynamics and external disturbances, a robust fuzzy sliding mode controller is developed. The slopes of sliding surfaces of the conventional sliding mode controller are tuned according to error states using a fuzzy logic and reach the pre-define...

On the orbits of the outer satellites of Jupiter

In this work we study the basic aspects concerning the stability of the outer satellites of Jupiter. Including the effects of the four giant planets and the Sun we study a large grid of initial conditions. Some important regions where satellites cannot survive are found. Basically these regions are due to Kozai and other resonances. We give an analytical explanation for the libration of the per...

Type Ii Migration of Planets on Eccentric Orbits

The observed extrasolar planets possess both large masses (with a median M sin i of 1.65 MJ) and a wide range in orbital eccentricity (0 < e < 0.94). As planets are thought to form in circumstellar disks, one important question in planet formation is determining whether, and to what degree, a gaseous disk affects an eccentric planet’s orbit. Recent studies have probed the interaction between a ...

Two New Candidate Planets in Eccentric Orbits

Doppler measurements of two G–type main–sequence stars, HD210277 and HD168443, reveal Keplerian variations that imply the presence of companions with masses (M sin i ) of 1.28 and 5.04 MJUP and orbital periods of 437 d and 58 d, respectively. The orbits have large eccentricities of e=0.45 and e=0.54, respectively. All 9 known extrasolar planet candidates with a=0.2–2.5 AU have orbital eccentric...
